Desktop Messenger - Service spawning hundreds of times

The Messenger is spawning redundantly, see screen shot. please advise.

Let's get rid of the spawning icons, TonyG1.


First, let's end the QuickBooks processes running in the background. This helps us close all of the icons. Here's how:

  1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete on your keyboard.
  2. Select Task Manager.
  3. Go to the Processes tab, select the QuickBooks processes one by one, then click End process.
  4. Close the Task Manager.

Then, repair the software. This fixes program related issues. Before doing the process, let's create a backup of our company file to avoid data loss.


Here's how to repair the program:

  1. Click the Start/Windows menu.
  2. Go to Control Panel (In Windows 8/8.1: From the Start menu, open Search and type Control Panel. From the results, select Control Panel).
  3. Click Programs and Features.
  4. Select QuickBooks, then click Uninstall/Change.
  5. Click Continue, then Next.
  6. Select Repair, then Next.
  7. Wait for the repair to complete, then click Finish.
  8. Restart computer if prompted. 

After doing the steps, try to open the messenger again.

Yes, last week I uninstalled the complete QB client and reinstalled. The problem existed then and exists now.

I can share additional steps to help you sort this out, @TonyG1.


Let's disable the status of your QuickBooks Desktop messenger. From there we will be able to isolate this concern for a possible program or data damage.


Here’s how:

  1. Login as the Admin while in a multi-user mode.
  2. Create a backup of your company file.
  3. Choose the File menu.
  4. Select Utilities.
  5. Click Disable QuickBooks Messenger.
  6. Log out of the company file and then log back in for the change to take effect.

If the spawning persists, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to look into the issue in a secured environment and further assist you.

  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  4. Click Contact US.
