Join nowI have 2 companies, 1 of which I just recently opened. Both use the essentials plan. However, the look and feel is different. Not that big a deal, however, there is one feature that is missing on the newer version and it is really annoying.
If you go to "banking" where you can upload QBO files from the credit card company, in the older version, it shows me the "bank balance" and the "quickbooks balance".
In the newer version, it only shows me the bank balance.
The bank balance is useless to me since it doesn't accurately reflect anything that I need.
The bank balance shows the balance at the time that I downloaded the QBO file.
The Quickbooks balance shows ONLY the transactions that I added during review.
My statement closes on the 24th of every month. So I download the QBO file for each statement. However, the QBO files also has the current balance which includes charges from after the statement closes on the 24th.
Any idea how to get it to show the QB balance like the older version, or maybe even get it switched to the older version?
Hi there, gurus.
We're unable to switch back to the older version of QuickBooks Online since the processing and data storage of the program goes through via Cloud. Please know that the new version of QuickBooks Online Essentials still shows the bank and QuickBooks balance. Please take a look at my screenshots below:
The QuickBooks balance is the total balance of all bank transactions that you’ve added or matched to QuickBooks. The bank balance shows your bank's actual balance from the last bank feed update.
You'll want to connect your bank or credit card account to automatically download your recent transactions. This way, you'll be able to track the balance of your real-life bank account.
Once your bank transactions are downloaded, it’s time to review and categorize them.
I also encourage reading our Reconciliation Guide to help keep your accounts balanced and up-to-date.
If I can be of any additional assistance, please don't hesitate to insert a comment below. Stay safe and healthy.
Hi,
The picture you posted is EXACTLY what I wanted, however, that's not what I have on my newer company. I have it on my older company. The newer one ONLY shows the bank balance.
Hello there, gurus.
The most possible reason why the QuickBooks Balance isn't showing is that we're unable to add a beginning balance. The first thing we need to make sure when setting up a bank account is the beginning balance. Without this, it can also cause issues when you reconcile it.
You'll want to check this article on what to do if you didn't enter an opening balance in QuickBooks Online. This will give you detailed steps if you forgot to enter an opening balance when you created the account.
Additionally, here's an article on how to fix beginning balance issues during your first reconciliation in QuickBooks Online.
I'll be here if you have more questions. Wishing you all the best!
No, that wasn't the issue. My credit cards have an opening balance of 0.
Hello there, gurus.
When you manually upload transactions into QuickBooks, the Bank Balance is set to zero. However, if you directly connect the credit card bank account, the bank balance will show the actual bank balance from the latest update.
A browser-related issue might have caused the issue of why the blue tile that displays the bank balance isn't showing. We can isolate the display issue by logging in to a private browser.
Then, visit the Banking page and see if the bank balance now shows. If it works as expected, you can switch back to the main browser and clear the cache. You can also use other browsers that will get rid of any unexpected display behaviors.
If you get the same thing, I'd suggest getting in touch with us so we can further investigate the issue. To ensure that we address this concern immediately, check out our support hours.

Yes, they do have two versions on the Banking tab now. It seems like the one on your screenshot is the newest version. How about on the Dashboard, the Bank Accounts section on the right panel, if the accounts are bank connected, you should see both (Bank and QuickBooks). You should also the see the QuickBooks Balance and Bank Balance on the Chart of Accounts.
