Do you have to set up a parent account for a credit card that has 3 cards and one statement when using QB online?

I can help and guide you on how to properly set up your credit card accounts in QuickBooks.

Before setting them up, check with your bank first and see how they send the downloaded transactions. If they are imported to the individual accounts, link the sub-accounts and not the parent account.

However, if the transactions are downloaded to one account, connect only the parent account. Check out this link on how to set up a bank or credit card account with multiple sub-accounts.

If you haven't created the parent account and sub-accounts, you can follow the steps below.

To create a credit card/parent account:

1. Go to Accounting on the left panel.
2. Under Your Company, choose Chart of Accounts.
3. Click on the New button.
4. Under Account Type, select Credit Card.
5. In the Detail Type drop-down, select the type of account you want to create.
6. Enter the name of the account in the Name field.
7. Fill in the necessary field boxes.
8. Once done, click on Save and Close.

Here's how to add a sub-account to a parent account:

1. Go to Accounting on the left panel.
2. Under Your Company, choose Chart of Accounts.
3. Click on the New button.
4. Under Account Type, select Credit Card.
5. In the Detail Type drop-down, select the type of account you want to create.
6. Enter the name of the account in the Name field.
7. Mark the box for Is sub-account.
8. Click on Save and Close.
