Does deleting items from inventory in POS cause issues with reporting?

I have many items in my inventory that have sold out and we will not be getting them back in stock.  This clutters up my inventory and I want them gone.  Does deleting them cause any issues with reporting?  I hope I don't have to leave them there forever and end up with a huge inventory list of non relevant items.

It will remove them from the items list, but they will still show on historical reports.

 When an item is deleted in POS, it does not actually delete the item. It marks it as "don't show me, don't search for me", but it is still in the database unless a data cleanup is done.

 Even then, receipts will still show the item because a receipt is like a polaroid picture. Even if you move all the furniture in the background, the picture stays the same.
