Error Code Unrecoverable Error, Can't Print Reports Or Open Accounts

I have QB Desktop Pro 2019 and I am suddenly getting an Unrecoverable Error when trying to print Reports or even opening any of my accounts. When I close the error notification, QB crashes.

I have tried restoring past backups and using the QB Tool Hub with no luck. I have also tried to Rebuild Data but nothing. I have the latest version and I can't find any info regarding this particular error code and I am now at a loss on how to proceed.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Yes, many people are suddenly seeing things like this. It does not appear to have anything to do with your company file. When a user sees this it happens in all their files. It seems to be related either to a QuickBooks change or a Windows change; It appears to be happening in multiple QuickBooks  versions - all at once.

On another thread, customers are posting that running QuickBooks with administrator privileges makes it work again.

To do this, right click the QB icon on your desktop (or start menu) and pick Run as administrator.

Hope this helps someone else. We've had several different functions related to Quickbooks crashing recently. On our end the problem turned out to be related to a password management program called Roboform. It had recently updated and caused some issues with Quickbooks and QBXML functions.  Uninstalling Roboform or reinstalling with a previous version made all of the issues go away. Roboform is aware of the issue and say it will be resolved in their next release.

Thanks for the reply, Charlene.

It would be good to let all your Customer Service Reps know about this issue as I spent the better part of an hour trying to resolve this issue with them. In the end, they determined that it was something on my end and I "would have to get an IT specialist to fix the problem."

It also would have saved me hours doing a restore on my C drive in case it was a Windows change over the past few days. Completely wasted the last couple of days trying to resolve this issue.

I surely hope it is resolved quickly.

Thanks for your response, Charlene. I have now left a second message in the Start A Message as I left one yesterday.

It would be a good idea to update your Customer Service Reps about this issue as I spent the better part of an hour trying to resolve this issue with them. In the end, it was determined that the problem was at my end and that I "would have to get my IT specialist to fix the issue."

It also would've saved me hours doing a complete C:\ drive restore hoping that maybe it was a Windows update over the past few days. No luck there.

I surely hop this will be resolved quickly.

Wow! That was a quick solution. Too bad I didn't know this yesterday.

In any case, thanks.

Quickbooks began around Aug 29 crashing with unrecoverable error every time I attempted to open any report. After three days of restoring backup files, uninstalling Windows updates, removing and reinstalling Quickbooks, all without success, running the program As Administrator is a good workaround until Intuit fixes the problem. How will we know when Intuit has fixed the problem?

@BigRedConsulting thanks for the posting however using Quickbooks in Administrator mode is a valid workaround but only works on computers that have minimal security settings. Users on corporate computers should not have Administrator rights assigned so this workaround won't work there.

Intuit needs to fix this problem, not have users fix it for them.

No argument there, but your example is why I don't use such computers.  They're not as useful as computers that aren't locked down by a paranoid IT department.

We are a 1 user, 1 computer on desktop 2020 with this issue.  Is there any concern with running as admin all the time in the program.  Everything is fine when I checked admin on the icon on my desktop.  I am not even sure if I was operating as admin in the past as I have never looked.

Good Morning, @tsabers

Running the program as the administrator won't cause any problems to your company file or account for QuickBooks. If you're running as administrator and you're still having this issue, then I suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. They have additional tools to help fix this problem as soon as possible.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Pick QuickBooks Desktop Help
  3. Press the Contact Us button.
  4. Type in your question and tap Continue
  5. Scroll down and choose to Get a callback

If you have any other concerns, feel free to ask. The Community is always here to have your back. Bye for now!

Candice - I was on for an hour on Tuesday morning and we found no solution.  We did create a new admin user on one company and then it appeared to work fine until yesterday.  I then changed my icon link to sign on as admin and it appears to be fine now.  My sons did the same thing a week ago.

Roboform sent a new update today and the QuickBooks issue seems to be resolved.

I have not needed to use the work around since I updated Roboform.  Thank goodness.

Candice -

any idea when this unrecoverable problem will be solved?  It must be a conflict with the most recent Windows update.  I have spoken to a number of companies having a similar problem.  Mine was working fine but just went in to look at the 941 from last quarter and it halted, gave me the same message and closed the program.  This is really becoming frustrating.

I just noticed the note about Robo form and updated just now to 9.3 and no change to the 941 pdf opening problem.  Still get an program halt and then error notice box and kick out of program.

Update - i just found in another thread in the community that the Robform appears to be an issue.

I updated it again to 9.3 then deleted my desktop and tool bar icons for QB, unchecked the run as admin and reinstalled the icons and now everything appears to be working correct.  I hope that was finally the problem.  Thanks.

I just saw this post. I had installed a new version of Roboform yesterday, so when I went into my QB the regular way (not as administrator) just now, the issue seems to have been resolved. I would never have thought that Roboform would be the cause. Thanks.

The problem apparently was an incompatibility with QB in a recent RoboForm update. I believe the flawed RF version was 8.9.2. Its release date of August 28 coincides with the onset of recent QB crashes. RoboForm support was aware of the problem and told me that it had been fixed in the latest release (8.9.3.3). I had been working around the problem by starting QB using Run as Administrator, but since installing RF 8.9.3.3, I have been able to start QB normally and I have experienced no more QB Unrecoverable Errors when opening reports, which was the issue I had been having since about August 29.
