Thank you for reaching out to us, customer1stroofi.

I am happy to share with you the steps on how to clear your browser's cache so you can process your payroll.

Here's how:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More More.
  3. Click More tools and then Clear browsing data.
  4. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
  5. Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes.
  6. Click Clear data.

Most of the time, you only need to clear your browser's cache. But if you keep having the same problem even after doing that, you can clear Intuit-specific cookies. This helps refresh website preferences that might be causing problems when you use QuickBooks.

Note: It’s important to only clear Intuit-specific cookies.

Google Chrome

  1. Click the Menu: button.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose Site settings.
  4. Go to Cookies and site data under Content.
  5. Select See all cookies and site data.
  6. Type “intuit” in the search bar to find Intuit cookies.
  7. Click Remove.
  8. Restart Google Chrome for the changes to take effect.

Here are the steps to clear cache for other browsers.

You may also check the process to run payroll.

Please let me know how it goes or if I can be of more help. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day!

Hello @customer1stroofi,

Thank you for sharing the results after following the suggestions shared by my colleague in your initial posts. The error message you receive is related to the accounts used on your payroll accounting preferences.

Let's review and update your payroll settings to get rid of such an error message. Let me show you how.

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under YOUR COMPANY, select Payroll settings
  3. Select Preferences.
  4. Click Accounting Preferences
  5. Scroll down to the Tax Liability Accounts section.
  6. Ensure that the accounts in this section have the correct account types based on your payroll items.

In the same manner, here's an article you can read to learn more about how you review and edit this setting: Payroll Accounting Preferences.

On top of that, I've also included this reference helpful for the complete guide in creating payroll to pay your employees: How do I create a paycheck for an employee?

Keep in touch if you need any more assistance with this, or there's something else I can do for you. I've got your back. Have a good day.

DID ANYONE FIND A WORK AROUND?  OR WHAT IS CAUSING THE ERROR?

Error: Either the Payroll Liabilities account, or its parent account, is an inappropriate account type. Please check the account types in your company's Chart of Accounts

Hi @2914538,

The error message is caused by the account type chosen or assigned to a payroll item selected upon processing your payroll transaction. The following instances can be the reason why you have received such an error:

  • A loan repayment item is mapped to a liability account instead of an asset account.
  • A non-repayment deduction item is mapped to a repayment or asset account instead of a liability account.
  • A non-repayment deduction item is mapped to an expense account instead of a liability account.

With this will have to go back and review each account type of all your payroll items. This way, we can determine which one is causing the error and update its account information accordingly.

Simply go to your chart of accounts and look for every payroll account to review. Once done, make sure to update your payroll's accounting preference as stated above before processing a new payroll transaction.

I'm adding this reference for tips and the important dates to remember in preparation for the coming year-end: Complete Certain Tasks in QuickBooks Online Payroll to Prepare for the New Fiscal or Calendar Year.

Let me know in the comments below if you've got questions about your payroll accounting in QuickBooks. I'll surely be around ready to lend a hand. Take care always!
