Filtering Expenses report by Class in Modern View

In Custom Reports, when I select Create New Report, and then select Expenses, I cannot setup a filter by Class - it's greyed out. I need to be able to filter expenses by class. Is there a workaround or a fix coming?

Filtering Expenses report by Class in Modern View

Thank you for your detailed information, Yo_Be_Low2. Let’s work together to ensure you can successfully filter by Class in your custom Expense report.

Sometimes, temporary files and cached data in your browser can cause issues, such as the Class filter appearing greyed out in your report. To resolve this, I recommend clearing your browser's cache to refresh it and eliminate any performance issues with QuickBooks. You can also consider using an alternative browser to narrow down the situation.

In the meantime, you can use a workaround by running the Transaction Detail by Account report. This will allow you to customize and filter the report by Class and Expense to access the data you need. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and search for Transaction Detail by Account.
  2. If you’re using the Modern View, click on the Columns section and check the box for Class.
  3. In the Filter section, select Transaction Type from the dropdown.
  4. Set the filter to Expense in the third line.
  5. Customize additional filters if needed.
  6. Once done, click Save as to customize the report for quick access in the future.

If the problem continues after clearing your cache and using the workaround, I recommend contacting our live support team for further assistance. They have the tools to securely review your account and provide personalized support to resolve this as quickly as possible.

Filtering Expenses report by Class in Modern View

FYI, clearing browser history & cache did nothing. Same result with Safari. I spoke with someone in Support and they had no idea why Class wasn't an available option for a filter.

I guess the answer is, for reasons that no-one understands, QBO has not made Class available as a filter in the Expenses report. Solution: don't run this report.
