Finding a vendor or payee

I usually use reports to do this, but there has to be an easier way.  I just want to quickly search for and list every payment I made in a certain date range for my water bill.  I tried the search in my checking account and just put in "city of Springfield water".  I was given a box with all kind of complicated filters and nothing worked.  It was ll way too complicated. How do I just get a simple listing of any vendor/payee  for which I have written a check.?  Thanks to all who help.

Finding a vendor or payee

Hello there, @mforest.

We can pull up Transaction List by Vendor report to show all the payment you've made in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Hover over Vendors & Payables, and then choose Transaction List by Vendor.

  3. Click the Customize Report tab, and then select Filters.
  4. On the search bar, type Preferred Vendor.
  5. Click the Preferred Vendor drop-down arrow, then choose the appropriate vendor.

  6. On the search bar, type Transaction Type.
  7. Click the Transaction Type drop-down arrow, then choose Check.

  8. Select OK once done.

I've added this article about customizing vendor reports in QBDT: Customize vendor reports.
