General Ledger:

Under Reports, when I try to open the General Ledger or General Journal, QB sends a message that a problem has occured and QB shuts down. What would be the problem? I am using QB Pro 2020 Desktop.

General Ledger:

I'll make sure that you can get back to work, WVE.

It could be that some components of the program are damaged that's why it crashes when you open the General Ledger report. To resolve this issue, we can run the built-in repair tool.

Before diving in, let's make sure to back up your company file first so that we'll be able to restore your data if ever we run into problems. Once done, we'll have to restart your computer to ensure that no other programs are affecting the repair.

Here's how to repair your QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu, then select Control Panel.
  2. Go to the Programs and Features section, then select Uninstall a Program.
  3. Choose QuickBooks from the list of programs and click Uninstall/Change.
  4. Click Continue/Next.
  5. Select Repair, then click Next again.
  6. Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the process.
  7. Click the Finish button, then restart your computer.
  8. Update your QuickBooks to the latest release to get the most recent fixes and security patches.

If the issue persists, I recommend utilizing the Verify & Rebuild features to scan your company file for errors and possible data damage.

Additionally, here's an article that you can read to help personalize your company and financial reports in QuickBooks Desktop: Customize Reports.

I'm just a post away if you have any other concerns or follow up questions. Feel free to tag my name in your comments.
