Join nowI've just started using QB 2019 Desktop. On printed forms (invoices and estimates), there are shaded alternate lines on the description/amount area of the form. As I use professional type invoices, I don't want this. How do I get rid of them? I've tried ticking and unticking the border lines tick box in Print Setup but it makes no difference. Can anyone help?
Thanks for checking us out here in the Community, @Anonymous.
I'm here to ensure that you'll be able to get rid of the alternate shaded lines on your sales forms so you can get back on track.
To get rid of those shaded lines on your sales forms, you'll need to make sure that the "Do not print line around each field" option on your printer set up is unchecked.
To do that:
I've attached some screenshots below for you to visualize the steps:
Once done and the issue persists, you can try to run the verify and rebuild data process. Verifying the data identifies the most commonly known data issues within a company file while rebuilding the data resolves most data integrity issues.
You can also check out this article about how to troubleshoot issues with printing in QuickBooks Desktop for your future reference: Using the Print & PDF Repair tool.
These resources should help you get rid of the shaded alternate lines on the description area of your sales forms.
Don't hesitate to reach back out to me if you have any other questions about this concern. I'll make sure to get back to you. Have a lovely day!
The feature you point to controls printing of boxes and lines around fields, and does not control the shading the OP is asking about.
It's an option you control in Enterprise.
It's a known bug in Pro/Premier. It should go away once you make an Edit to the template, Save the change. Then, put the template back how you want it.
Lists menu > Templates List, Edit that template, change one thing and Save. Change it back and Save.
Hi. Thanks very much for your response. However, your suggestion did not work on this occasion. I have accidentally stumbled on the solution - I opened a completed document (e.g Invoice), clicked on the drop down box of PRINT, clicked on the 2nd option, changed from the default printer to Microsoft Print to PDF and printed the document as a PDF, and Hey Presto the issue was sorted. I had to do this separately for Invoices, Estimates, etc.

Hi. You were correct that the other suggestions did not work on this occasion. For your information, I have accidentally stumbled on the solution - I opened a completed document (e.g Invoice), clicked on the drop down box of PRINT, clicked on the 2nd option, changed from the default printer to Microsoft Print to PDF and printed the document as a PDF, and Hey Presto the issue was sorted. This worked to remove! Thanks for posting!
Worked perfectly!
Thank you
When your print dialog box pops up you just have to uncheck the box for "Shade alternate table rows".... It has nothing to do with the template itself.
Can this be set as a global option? Or must it be done for each individual one?
Hello CPMCCRORY,
Let me add some information about the alternate shaded lines option.
If you're referring to BsRR's post, the "Shade alternate table rows" pop-up is set for that transaction only.
At the moment, we don't have a way to set it as a global option. You can consider the work around provided by our contributors in this thread.
I've also added this article in case you want to import templates in QuickBooks.
Please let me know if you have other QuickBooks questions. I'd be around for you. Have a wonderful day ahead.
