How can I change my invoice number in QB online?

How are you doing today? I hope all is well. 

To have the option to use your own invoice numbers, make sure Custom transaction numbers is turned on in your settings. Here's how:

1. Click the Gear icon.
2. Select Account and Settings.
3. Go to the Sales tab.
4. Tap on the Pencil icon in the Sales form content row.
5. Tick the Custom transaction numbers box.
6. Hit Save, then Done.

Now that the setting is activated, you can now change your invoice numbers. Here's how:

1. Go to All apps, then Sales & Get Paid, then Invoices.
2. Select any invoice, then select Edit invoice. Or, click on Create invoice to create a new invoice.
3. In the Invoice no. field, enter the custom number or letter sequence you want to use.
4. Tap on Save or Save and close.

I've done all of this but the invoice number section just does not show on my invoice when it loads the page.

Thank you for letting us know. If you’ve enabled Custom transaction numbers but still don’t see the invoice number field, double-check that you saved your changes after enabling Custom transaction numbers and try the steps below.

To check if the Custom transaction numbers are enabled. Here’s how:

1. Go to Gear icon, select Account and settings, then the Sales tab.
2. Under Sales form content, check that Custom transaction numbers is enabled.
3. Then Save.

Then check the Invoice template settings:

1. Click the Gear icon, then Custom form styles.
2. Locate the invoice template you're using and click Edit.
3. Go to the Content section and check if the invoice number field is included on the form.
4. If it's missing, add it by dragging or selecting the appropriate field and click Done.

After, test the feature by creating a new invoice:

1. Hover over to +Create, and click Invoice.
2. Check if the Invoice number field now appears and allows entry.

If the invoice number field still doesn’t appear, try logging out and back in, or use a different mobile browser to log in. If the issue still persists, you may contact our live support for further assistance.
