You can not

you have to start from scratch in QBO with the limited options they give you

That just seems ridiculous.  I have spent much time creating a template and now I need to make a few minor changes to have a second invoice but I have to start all over.  This should just be a standard option to duplicate a template.

Hello, SevenClark.

Desktop invoice had some slight differences compare to the online version of the software since they both run on a different platforms. Though, you can still create your personalize form styles in QBO.  For additional information about this process, please refer to this article: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Income-and-expenses/Import-custom-form-styles-for-invoices-o....

You can also send request too our developers about your preferred invoice. Just click the Gear icon at the top and select Feedback.

Thanks for dropping by.

Wondering if there's a product update here.

Is it still the case, that for each template we'd like to customize, we have to start from scratch?

It's nice to meet you, @DavidPalmer707.

It's always great to see someone new in the Community. I want to make sure your concerns are addressed.

At this time, the option to duplicate an invoice/custom form style isn't available. However, I'm going to personally submit feedback to our Product Developers so they can consider this feature in one of the upcoming releases.

Here's how to start a new custom form style:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Under "Your Company," choose Custom Form Styles.
  3. Select New Style.
  4. Now pick the type of form you would like to create and customize.

If you want to go more in-depth on what you can customize in each section of the template, then check out this link: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

I'm only a comment away if you have any other questions. Have a great evening.
