How can I Edit or Delete the customer type details on Drop Down list

You cannot delete them if they are still assigned to any customer name. Once they are no longer in use, please recognize that, as a Drop Down, that means there is a List. So, start by going to Lists menu. If you don't see it here, please note there is a little black arrow "submenu" indicator. Here you see Customer & Vendor Profile Lists submenu, and Customer Type is right there. Any dropdown indicates the info is maintained on its own list.

How can I Edit or Delete the customer type details on Drop Down list

Can I delete the customer type (ct) in a customer profile? For instance the customer no longer has the status/customer type. I still use the ct, but I want to modify this customer's record to remove this particular ct from their profile.

Hello there, EWalsh.

We can open your customer who no longer has the status of this particular customer type. Then, make the customer type as inactive to remove the customer type on their information. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Customer menu and select Customer Center.
  2. Find their name on the customer lists.
  3. Double-click the customer's name.
  4. Select the Additional Info tab. Then, click the Customer Type drop-down arrow and select Add new.
  5. The New Customer Type window appears, enter a few characters and tick the Customer type is inactive box.
  6. Then, OK.

Also, there are available reports that you can run in QuickBooks Desktop. You can check these articles for additional reference about handling reports:

Let me  know if you have other questions. Take care and stay safe.

This does not make sense. The graphic in your answer is not what my QB pages look like.

How can I Edit or Delete the customer type details on Drop Down list

Hey there, EWalsh.

I'd be glad to share some information and help you delete the customer type on your client's profile.

Are you using QuickBooks Online? If so, deleting the customer type on your client's profile is currently unavailable.

As a workaround, you can create another or temporary type and assign it to your customer to remove the particular CT on their profile.

To create a new customer type:

  1. Click Sales in the left panel and choose Customers.
  2. From the Customers screen, select Customer types.
  3. Select New customer type.
  4. Enter a name for the customer type,
  5. Hit Save.

Once done, assign the new CT to your customer so the particular type will be removed.

I'm including this article which covers this process from assigning a type to multiple customers to running reports on them: Set up and assign customer type.

Let me know if you need anything else with QuickBooks customers. I'll be more than happy to share additional insights with you. Have a good one!
