Buy nowHello there, @cffbf1.
Welcome to the Community. Let me share some information about the invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
The customer name will only display under the Bill To section when emailing an invoice. However, we can enter your customer's name by going to the Subject field. I'll show you how:
1. On the invoice page, select Save ad send.
2. In the Subject field, enter your customer's name.
3. Click Save and close.
I've attached articles that help you customize your sales form the way you want it.
Fill me in for any additional questions you've in your mind. I'm always up to lend a hand. Stay safe!
Hi, @cffbf1.
Hope you’re doing great. I wanted to see how everything is going about showing the customer name in the email subject when sending invoices you had the other day. Was it resolved? Do you need any additional help or clarification? If you do, just let me know. I’d be happy to help you at any time.
Looking forward to your reply. Have a pleasant day ahead!
I appreciate your prompt reply, @cffbf1. Allow me to clear things up for you.
As my colleague @Maybelle_S stated above, the option to have the subject line of invoices automatically generate a customer's name is unavailable. The workaround I can suggest is to manually enter the info you need in the subject line before sending out the email.
If you need to make changes on your invoice template in QuickBooks Online (QBO), check out this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online. Scroll down and search for the specific steps intended for QBO Simple Start at the bottom of the page.
Post a reply if you have other questions about sending invoices from QBO. I'll help you out as soon as I can. Enjoy your day!
any word on this happening?
Hello there, @BrassTax.
I’ve seen that you’ve posted twice on the Community page. My colleague already addressed this issue about invoices for you. You can visit the link to view his recommendation: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/re-i-need-to-include-customer-name...

I see that you have changed this in the new version of invoices by adding a variable for the invoice number [Invoice No.] on the subject line. Can you configure the customer name as a variable in the subject line as you do with the invoice number? This is extremely helpful as it eliminates manual typing for every invoice.
It would be awesome if you can even add a custom field.
Thanks
Thank you for posting your question here, fdavignon. I'm happy to provide details to address your inquiry about customizing invoice emails in QuickBooks Online.
For now, only the company name and transaction number will automatically show up in the Subject line when sending invoices from QBO.
I understand and agree that automatically pulling in the customer name could help streamline the process by avoiding manual entry and saving you time. This would be a useful enhancement for invoice workflows in QBO.
I would suggest submitting a feature request to have the customer name added as a variable in the invoice email subject line in QuickBooks Online.
Your feedback is valuable to our Product Development team in enhancing the QBO user experience. Sending in feature ideas and suggestions helps us understand the capabilities our users need for an optimal workflow.
