Join nowI'm here to share some information about Form W9, me-amandac-com.
For individuals, the first line of the W-9 form should be the first and last name along with the SSN. For business, the IRS encourages you to use your EIN.
You'll want to make sure that you've entered the other information correctly so the program won't ask you to fill out the form again. Here's how:
To know more about this process, you can read this guide: Fill out a W-9 and view your 1099-MISC in QuickBooks Self-Employed
If you need some resources in completing your other tasks, you may browse a topic from Help Article page.
Feel free to visit us again here with any concerns or questions you may have. The Community always has your back.
First, I did fill out my W9 correctly, but your system is asking me to sign it again. It says "We renovated the W-9 setup on our side and need you to e-sign a fresh one." Here is a screenshot:
When I click on the link to e-sign the W9, I don't have the opportunity to edit the form. I can only add my signature. Unfortunately, the form has my SSN filled in. I don't know how this happened, as I NEVER provide my SSN to my clients.
Also, when I follow your instructions to go to the gear icon and click on "Tax profile", it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the W-9 form, and nowhere does it ask for EIN on this form. This section appears to be for estimated tax payment calculation data. Here is a screenshot of the form that appears when I follow your instructions:
Unfortunately, your answer (and the provided documentation) doesn't solve my issue of how to use my SSN instead of my EIN. Can you offer any additional suggestions??
I'll be glad to share the steps, @me-amandac-com.
You can log in to QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) and enter your EIN from the W-9 info. Here's how:
Otherwise, you can reach out to your client or employer. They'll be the ones to input your tax information into the program.
Here's a link to guide you in filing your 1099: Fill out a W-9 and view your 1099-MISC in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
I'm also adding our help content in case you need help with other QBSE-related tasks. It has our general QBSE topics with articles.
Keep me posted if you have other questions or concerns with tax forms. I'll be around for you. Take care and have a nice day ahead.
Hi,
Thanks for your reply, but I don't have the "W-9 Information" tab referenced in step 2 of your instructions. See screenshot:
I've contacted the client to see if they can change it on their end, but it is frustrating to not be able to update this myself!
Thanks for getting back with the Community, me-amandac-com. I appreciate your screenshot.
Since your W-9 Information tab isn't displaying, I'd recommend checking your browser. It's possible this could have something to do with temporary internet files. Browsing applications store these types of records, but sometimes they can cause issues with certain webpages. You can open a private window and check to see if it's showing up.
Here's how to access incognito mode in some of the most commonly used web browsers:
If it displays properly while browsing privately, it's safe to say this problem's being caused by your browser. It can be fixed by clearing cached data and Intuit-specific cookies.
In the event it continues not showing your W-9 Information tab while using incognito, you'll initially want to try switching to another browsing application.
Here's a list of supported browsers:
You can also check a browser's compatibility with your books by utilizing our browser health checkup tool. QuickBooks supports the current and two previous versions of browsers. If you find that you're using an older version, make sure to update it to its latest release. Steps for doing so can be found on the particular company's website.
In the event you've found no problems that could be causing this with your browser, I'd recommend using a different device and/or internet connection. If it continues happening on other devices and/or internet connections, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
They can be reached while you're signed in:
Be sure to review their support hours so you'll know when agents are available.
I've also included a detailed resource about system requirements for QuickBooks that may come in handy moving forward: System requirements
Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a lovely day!
Hi, just following up.
None of the provided information provided a fix for my issues. I contacted support chat and they had no idea what I was talking about. It seems no one at QuickBooks knows how to change the SSN to an EIN on a W-9 form.
I have contacted my clients directly, and am now trying to figure out how to delete my QBSE account, as I do not want it if I cannot use an EIN.
I'm sorry, but I cannot accept any of the provided answers as a solution, thanks anyway :(
