Adding items in your chart of accounts is easy with QuickBooks Online. Let me show you how.


  1. Click on the Gear icon, then choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Select New at the upper right-hand corner.
  3. In the Account Type drop-down, select the account type.
  4. In the Detail Type drop-down, select the type of account you want to create.
  5. In the Name field, enter a name for the account. You may enter a brief description under the Description field.
  6. Enter an opening balance for the account. Then, in the as of field, enter the date of the balance.
  7. Select Save and Close (or Save and New if you want to enter another account).
