How do I create an income and expense graph in quickbooks online?

Hi clair,

In your QuickBooks Online Home page, there's a Profit and Loss graph that shows your Income and Expenses. You can change the date range of the graph by clicking the drop-down arrow in the upper right hand corner of the graph (see attached screenshot).

Aside from the Profit and Loss graph on the Home page, you can also open the Company Snapshot. You can open this by going to Reports on the left side, then enter Company Snapshot in the search box.

Stay in touch with us if you have other questions.

How do I create an income and expense graph in quickbooks online?

The Home P&L graph only shows one period. Can I create a graph showing month-to-month income and expenses? Compare income by months for several Fiscal Years?

This is a non-profit so there is no profit and loss just income vs expenses.

The Home page P&L graph is limited to comparing P & L for one period. Can QuickBooks Online graph Income by month for several fiscal years? Graph income vs expenses by month for the YTD fiscal year? Or should I be using reports to create csv and Excel to get these types of graphs?

How do I create an income and expense graph in quickbooks online?

Hi there, @AVP,

Thanks for your time posting here in our forum. I want to make sure you can view your Company Snapshot in QBO.

There are 2-ways to view your company's performance over any period. Follow these steps:

Option 1: Business Snapshot on the QBO DashBoard

  1. Log in to your QBO account.
  2. Click the Dashboard menu.
  3. You can see there your business activities in graphs.

Option 2: Business Snapshot in the Reports Page

  1. Click Reports from the navigation panel.
  2. In the Business overview section, click Business Snapshot.
  3. That will show you the charts and graphs of your income and expenses and how they've change over time.

If you're unable to access these steps on your account, trying a different browser or incognito window can help. Here are some keyboard shortcuts you can try:

Google Chrome: press Ctrl Shift N
Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl Shift P
Internet Explorer: press Ctrl Shift P
Safari: press Command Shift N

Please let me know the results, @AVP. I want to make sure you can view your business statistics. I'll keep an eye on this post for your response. Have a great day!

How do I create an income and expense graph in quickbooks online?

Good day, @blpr,

I'm here to help you go through some steps in getting the Company Snapshot to open.

You need to make sure the privacy to see your business snapshot is turned off. This might be the reason you're unable to see the graphs on the Dashboard. snapshot1.PNG

To see the graphs of your sales and expenses, click the arrow down on the left side of the page to bring down the graph. snapshot3.PNG

You can always run the Business Snapshot to view your income and expenses and how they’ve changed over time.

Please check here to know how the home page update work for your business finances: Get a snapshot of your business finances.

Keep in touch with me on how this goes. Just leave a comment below and I'll get back to you.

How can I customize my business snapshot? I need different time periods (like "this month"), and different graphs. I DON'T need previous year comparisons at this time.

Hello there, Maria W.

With Business Snapshot, we can only select the This Year-to-date, Last Month, Last Quarter, and Last Year. You can refer to the Dashboard instead if you'd like to see the current month's income and expenses.

You also have an option to export a report into an Excel file. That way, you can generate your own charts and graphs. I have an article here for more details about reporting: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.

I'll be here if you have additional concerns. Stay safe and healthy!
