Welcome aboard to the Online Community. I want to ensure you can create an invoice showing the reimbursable expenses.


Creating this transaction is currently unavailable in the mobile app. However, you can use the browser to enter an invoice showing the reimbursable expenses.

 

If you haven't turned on the Billable Expenses feature yet, let's go ahead and turn it on in your account. Let me guide you through the steps.

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top, then choose Account and Settings.
  2. Select Expenses on the left panel.
  3. Click on the Pencil icon for Bills and expenses.
  4. Mark the boxes for Show Items table on expense and purchase forms, Track expenses and items by customer, and Make expenses and items billable.
  5. Click on Save and Done.

After activating the feature, you can now create an invoice. Here's how:

 

  1. Click on the Plus icon, then select Invoice.
  2. On the Invoice page, enter the customer’s name.
  3. Fill in the fields.
  4. Once you see the Add to Invoice window for Billable expense, click on the Add button.  
  5. Click on Save.

 

After following these steps, the transaction should now be recorded in your account.

When will QuickBooks update their mobile app so that you can bill expenses without having to go into the web application?

 

I’d assumed that was the advantage of being able to add expenses on the move, you can identify the client but it doesn’t appear on their invoice unless you go into the web and update it.  The help desk struggled with this and after an hour of trying things they spoke to the technical team who said it can’t be done on the mobile app.

When accessing QuickBooks Online (QBO) through a web version, you'll have more features and functions compared to the mobile app. Allow me to provide further explanation.

 

The mobile app offers a subset of easy features to use when you are on the go. These tasks (like project management, field service management, payment processing, and workflow automation) allow seamless data sharing between QBO and the app.

 

Our product developers are pushing through the envelope to improve the product to meet your needs. Know that everything we have developed within the program derives from listening to our customers.

Thanks for the prompt reply,

 

I think your website, help options and help desk staff should all make it clear that the mobile app doesn’t include this option.  The video introduction to QuickBooks suggests it does, showing people on the move billing clients.  The app gives you the impression it does this as you get the option of linking an expense to a client.

 

i certainly missed charging clients for expenses initially when I started using Quickbooks.

 

I’ve looked at the blog but it only mentions what are planned soon, not a list of potential enhancements with expected date.

 

Could you have a list of potential enhancements that users could add to with others indicating their support for them to prioritise development?

 

I’d appreciate it if you could let me know when the app is going to be updated and whether I need to do anything.  Do you have, or can you find out a timescale?  Are we talking months or years?
