How do I delete a journal entry for a loan that was entered incorrectly?

I entered a journal entry for an equipment loan and accidentally linked it to the same account as another piece of equipment. Now it will not let me delete from the register.

I can share some tricks on you can delete the journal entry, BMH.

Since you've accidentally linked it to the same account of another equipment, you'll need to change its account first to a different one. Once done, you'll be able to successfully eliminate the journal entry from your register. Here's how to do it:

  1. Select Accounting from the sidebar menu, then go to Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the appropriate account for the transaction.
  3. From the Action column, select View register.
  4. Choose the journal entry, then click the Edit button.
  5. Change the account to a different one.
  6. Click Save, then choose Yes to confirm the changes.
  7. Open the journal entry again, then click More.
  8. Select Delete, then Yes to complete the process.

I've also enclosed some articles that will help you manage your journal entries in QuickBooks Online:

I'm just a comment away if you have any other concerns or follow-up questions. Have a great rest of the weekend.
