How do I delete accounts payable (a/p)? I posted the wrong year payables and since have deleted them

I hope you're having a wonderful time, cherylalevy.

You'll want to go to your Chart of Accounts to delete the Accounts payable (A/P). Take note that we're unable to completely remove it from your company file. The system will just inactivate it from the list. Also, doing it while there's a balance in the account will prompt an error message. Make sure it has zero balance first (by deleting the bills

Here are the steps:

  1. Hover your mouse on Accounting, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the Accounts payable (A/P), then click the down arrow icon under Action
  3. Choose Make inactive (won't reduce usage)

It will be excluded from the list of your active accounts. You can click the small gear icon (right above the action column), then tick Include inactive if you want to see it again. It will have a tag "(deleted)" at the end of the name.

Also, you can only delete the Accounts payables you manually created. We're unable to inactivate the default one (the one that QuickBooks automatically creates).

We have a number of articles that can help you manage your expenses and vendors. You can browse and read them here

We're open around the clock, so please don't hesitate to post other questions here.
