How do I delete multiple accounts in the Chart of accounts at once. I have imported COA from a similar co. but don't need a few accounts. Don't want to go through 1 by 1

I'm here to share some information about deleting your account registers in QBO.

 

At this time, the option to do a batch delete for multiple accounts is currently unavailable. To delete them, you'll need to do it one at a time.

 

Here's how to do that:

 

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Find the account you want to delete.
  4. In the Action column, choose Delete.
  5. Click Yes to confirm the action.

Please be reminded that deleting an account will not remove all its transactions. They will remain in the company file, so you're able to access them through reports.

 

If you'd like to remove the transactions completely, you should delete all of them. To know more about deleting transactions, please refer to this article: https://community.intuit.com/articles/1146027.

 

While the option you're looking for is not yet available, you can send a product request to our engineers. You can do that by clicking the Gear icon, then selecting Feedback.

I made a duplicate Expense Category in Chart of ACcounts...

I made a duplicate Expense Category in Chart of ACcounts and dont know how to delete it. I click on the gear icon and select edit but there is no Delete option. Please help.

I don't understand this. In the UK version of Quickbooks...

I don't understand this. In the UK version of Quickbooks Online it is possible to batch delete multiple accounts from the chart of accounts. Why are you offering your US customers an inferior service?

I am with Tina on this... There is no "Delete" under my account's action menu. There is "Make inactive" but this is an account that hasn't nor will ever get used. How do we delete it?

You can make that expense category as inactive. Marking it as Inactive is the same as deleting an account.
 
This will no longer appear on your chart of accounts unless you set your settings to show inactive accounts. It will now include a (deleted) text next to the expense category in the Name field. Example: Interest Paid (deleted)

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to your Chart of Accounts from the Gear () icon.
  2. Choose the duplicate expense account that you want to delete.
  3. From the Action drop-down, click on Make inactive
  4. Choose Yes from the window that appears.
