Let me share some insights on how you can itemize your categories in your QuickBooks Online account.
If you want to create a category in your Chart of Accounts, you can follow the steps provided below. Please make sure to make the account name unique to avoid duplicate categories. Here's how:
- Go to the Accounting tab.
- Select Chart of Accounts.
- Click the New button from the upper-right corner.
- Choose the Account type in the field.
- Select Detail type.
- Enter the name of your account.
- Write a description in the Description field.
- If you want to add a sub-account, put a checkmark in the box beside Is sub-account. Refer to this article: Create subaccounts in your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online.
- Choose the option you want to start tracking your finances on that account in the field.
- Hit the Save and Close button.
