Re: How do I move Windows QB desktop to a MacBook Pro?

hi jgpoolmt ,

There are two options for you:

1. Convert your file in QuickBooks Desktop, install QuickBooks for Mac, and restore the file, OR

2. Secure a backup copy of your file (QBB), install Paralells + Windows + QuickBooks Desktop on your Mac, restore the backup file.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: How do I move Windows QB desktop to a MacBook Pro?

Good day, @jgpoolmt,

Fiat Lux - ASIA is correct. Converting your QuickBooks Desktop File to the Mac version and vice versa is possible through round tripping. This process is commonly by accountants to make changes to your company file most especially if they are using a different database or QuickBooks program.

The first thing you need to do is to install your QuickBooks Mac on your computer. You may follow the steps outlined in this article to get set up: Install and Set up QuickBooks Mac Desktop

Please make sure to update your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows to the latest release. Once you're done, we can now convert your Windows file to Mac by following the steps below:

  1. Open QuickBooks for Windows as Admin.
  2. Re-sort lists.
  3. Rebuild and Verify your company file data.
  4. Go to the File tab, then select Utilities.
  5. Choose Copy Company File for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
  6. Save the file to your desired location to create a MAC.qbb file.
  7. Send the copy to the Mac computer using whatever method you prefer (e.g., DVD, external hard drive, flash drive, FTP web site).
  8. Restore the file to your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

You may want to check this article to know more about restrictions and general instructions on converting your company files: Convert a QuickBooks Mac file to QuickBooks Windows and back again

Please don't forget to update me on how this goes, @jgpoolmt. I'll be delighted to help you with your QuickBooks concerns anytime. Have a great day!
