How do I put an expense in an expense category when it is labled as a transfer?

Several Venmo expenses are showing up in my banking as a transfer, and I want to assign them to an expense category

How do I put an expense in an expense category when it is labled as a transfer?

Hi @sandy32,

 

You'll want to create a bank rule for your Venmo expenses. This helps you auto-assign your expenses to an expense category. Let me walk you through the steps.

  1. Go to Banking, then Rules at the top.
  2. Click New rule and type in the rule name.
  3. Choose Money out and All bank accounts under the Apply this to transactions that are section.
  4. Then, enter a condition. In the Then assign section, choose Expense for Transaction type and Category.
  5. Hit Save.

Once done, you can reconcile your account to make sure your book is accurate.
