Thank you for dropping your comments here in the Community, @danny36. I am here to walk you through the steps on how to delete the invoice and invoice reference number as well.

If you accidentally enter inaccurate information on an invoice and want to cancel it, you can simply invalidate it from your QuickBooks Online.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Click on Sales, then Invoices.
  2. Find the invoice number that you want to delete on the list and click on it.
  3. Click on More below, select Delete.
  4. To confirm, select Yes.

Now, you’ve completed the process of deleting your invoice.

For more information, I've included the following link: Void or delete transactions in QuickBooks Online.

If you want to reproduce the invoice, you may find complete instructions and information in this article: Create invoices in QuickBooks Online.

Just let me know if you still have clarification with the steps on how to void an invoice. Just hit reply. Stay healthy!

Thank you. I did that originally however the next used invoice contained the deleted invoices number. I deleted 2035. The next invoice created was given 2035. How do I get QB to use 2036 for the next invoice?

I'll help you set the invoice number, danny36.

To start, let's change the settings and turn on the Custom transaction numbers feature. This way, you can control the sequence. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. Go to the Sales tab.
  3. Click the Pencil icon in the Sales form content row.
  4. Check the Custom transaction numbers box.
  5. Select Save, then Done

Once done, you can now manually add the invoice number. QuickBooks Online will remember the number and continue the sequence.

If your customer pays the invoice, you can record the payment
