How do you write off customer credit?

I have a customer with a credit of $0.20 on their account. I would like to write it off due to the low amount. Quick Books will not let me write off a negative amount. How do I go about writing off the credit?

You can make a invoice, for that amount, and then if you make a Receive payment, and select the customer, and then select both the credit and the invoice, it should zero out.

What if the credit is old? Will that affect the closing year books?

That is correct, brockiholly.

Any changes made after closing the book affect the account balances. Should you need to record it in that period? We highly recommend asking a few pieces of advice from an accountant. There's are a lot of implications that will happen if that's going to get posted.
