We use Tags for our non-profit to track grants income and expenses, but need to create a larger system of tracking that accounts for multiple grants with overlapping timelines and deadlines. Therefore I plan on building an external spreadsheet or database system, however I need to be able to see "tags" via the export of transaction details. How do I export tags as a column in reporting versus running a report with specific tags? I want to look at all our income/expenses holistically across the year including line items both tagged and not tagged.
Hey there, @themuseumofhumanachievement.
For now, the option to add a tag column in a Transaction Detail report is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
The only reports we can run with tags are the Profit and Loss Tag Group and Transaction List by Tag Group.
I can see how this option would be helpful to your business, especially when reviewing your income and expense transactions. Thus, I'll take note of this as a suggestion to improve your experience in QuickBooks.
On the other hand, you can personally send feedback to our developers. They can review your request and most likely include it in future updates. Here's how to send your suggestions:
In the meantime, you can export your data using the available reports with tags in QuickBooks. You'll have the ability to customize them to show specific accounts or data you needed the most for your business.
Moreover, you can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.
Let me know if you need further assistance or any clarification about running a report in QBO. I'm always here to provide extra information and help. Have a great day, @themuseumofhumanachievement.
Thanks for your reply. Your valuable reply has helped me a lot.
Hi,
Following up on this comment, I also would like to be able to export my expense record including the "tag" as a column. I like adding Tags when categorizing expenses as it is easy to do, but then I would like to be able to see those tags in an excel export for when I create reports.
Is there any update to adding this feature? Thanks!
Welcome to the Community, @HG21.
I understand how it can help you if you can run and export a report to excel with tags for the expenses.
Currently, this feature is not available in QuickBooks Online. I recommend sending a feedback to our Development team as they aim to improve QuickBooks features to help you grow your business.
Here's how:
In the mean time, since tags work for the whole transaction, you can use class tracking per line item instead. You can read this article to learn more about class tracking in QuickBooks Online: Get started with class tracking in QuickBooks Online.
For future reference, here is an article you can check to guide you in running reports by class: Run reports by class in QuickBooks Online.
Let me know if you have questions about using tags in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.
Hi there, has there been any updates on this? Are there any transaction level details where you can export with tags as the additional columns? Thanks!
I admire you for taking your time in the loop about the availability of these export tags on the Transaction Detail report.
I can see how beneficial it is to your business.
As of now, I’m unable to share with you a specific time frame as to when this report will be available. Rest assured, our Product team is aware of this and is working on implementing this in the future.
You can also submit feedback so they can have a look and review it. Let me show you how.
You can also check this link for more details: How do I submit feedback?
In the meantime, you’ll want to customize your available reports. Also, I recommend checking our QuickBooks blog page from time to time to stay current on the latest news about QuickBooks.
Keep me posted if you have any other concerns managing your reports or if there’s anything else I can be of help with. I’m always around, ready to assist you. Have a good one, and stay safe!
