"But what I am trying to do is run some kind of Customer transaction report that list all invoice and then what credit memo was used on each and every invoice."
The closest you can get is running a Statement.
Thanks, that was helpful! I didn't know I could do that.
But what I am trying to do is run some kind of Customer transaction report that list all invoice and then what credit memo was used on each and every invoice.
First line item is the Invoice number
2nd line item is the Credit memo used on the invoice.
then another invoice followed by the credit memo (if any was applied)
Thanks for sharing the format and details you want to see on a specific customer report. I can provide some insights about this in QuickBooks.
At this time, customizing any kind of customer transaction list reports with the view you need is unavailable. Both invoices and credit memos are called Transaction Types and they are under one column, which is why we can't separate them. You're just able to select either one or both to appear.
As what @qbteachmt mentioned above, the closest you can use is the Statement. However, there isn't a way to differentiate these types into two line items.

I can see the importance of having such report in the program. The Community recognizes feedback and suggestions from customers like you which can help us improve our product and services to our customers' delight.
You can let our product engineers hear your thoughts by going to the Help menu, then selecting Send Feedback Online. I'll do the same thing from my side so we're hitting them through both employee and customer channels.

I appreciate you letting me know how the report suggested by @lilben31 can also help run your businesses. I have some additional details to share about this.
This type of report isn't yet available in QuickBooks Desktop. @qbteachmt provided great options above which you can use to show both credit memos and invoices. You can't separate them per line items though.
Here's an article for more information:
While this isn't available, you'll want to add up to the suggestions raised by other users about this. The more requests and vote feedback has, the more likely it gets prioritized as a highly requested feature. To add to their voices, go to Help at the top menu bar, then Send Feedback Online.
Please let me know if there's anything I can do here to help you succeed. I'll gladly help!
I think I may have found the answer to your question:
1. Go to Reports>Banking>Check Detail
2. Select Customize Report
3. Click on Filter Tab
4. Modify Report as follows:
Account: All Accounts
Date: Specify the date you desire
Detail Level: All
Transaction Type: Credit Memo
5. Select OK
This should show you the Credit Memos for the date specified and the invoices and items it applied to. You can also run this for PAYMENTS. Just change the Transaction Type to PAYMENT.
I hope this helps!
I appreciate you for sharing your suggestion here in the QuickBooks Community, tsd81.
I understand how the report that shows which credit memos that were linked to invoices would be beneficial to your business. I'll make sure to take note of this and will inform you once we receive product enhancement update about the availability of this option.
For the meantime, you may want to consider the workarounds provided by my colleagues on their posts above.
Please know that you're always welcome to post if you have any other concerns. Have a good one.
The inability to run a report to provide as back up with our payments to vendors is a real challenge, and creating issues with our accounting matching the vendor accounting. We can run a Bill Payment Stub to send with our cheque to a vendor, but this report does not list the invoices we cleared with credits. Therefore the vendors are clearing their selection of invoices with credits, and we are clearing a different selection of invoices with credits. The difference between how we are managing the credits on account and how the vendors are managing the credits means they are showing outstanding invoices we've noted as paid, and we are paying invoices they no longer show as outstanding. QB, please update your Bill Payment Stub to list the applied credit transactions that were completed during the pay bill transaction. Thank you.
Glad to have you back, @mswanson.
I can provide a report where you can check on the credits applied to a bill in QuickBooks Desktop.
You can pull up and customize the Check Detail report as it shows all the transactions connected to the bill.
Let me guide you how:
From there, you can select each bill to see the tally of the payments including credits applied.

Thank you for this information, unfortunately the report didn't show what we are looking for. I added displaying Paid and Pay Method but this didn't help either. I also tried changing the Transaction Type from Bill to Bill Credit. Either way, it did not list the Bills that were 'paid' with Bill Credits.
I ran a report earlier using the method provided in this conversation thread but changed the Transaction Type to Bill Credit, and added a further Name filter to narrow it down to a specific Vendor. It did provide the information we were looking for, but in so much detail that it isn't a usable report to provide vendors as back up to cheque, even after removing several unneeded columns. Often one Bill Credit is applied to multiple Bills, and often there are multiple Items with one Bill. So for example, one Bill Credit with four items lists on the report:
Bill Credit, 1st Item, All invoices cleared with this Bill Credit, then again same Bill Credit, 2nd Item, and All the same invoices cleared with this Bill Credit, then again same Bill Credit, 3rd Item, and all the same invoices cleared with this Bill Credit, etc. So one Bill Credit with 4 items clearing 10 Bills will repeat all Bills cleared with each Item, causing one Bill Credit transaction to span multiple pages of the report. The report display is hard to describe, and I'm not sure I've done it well, so I've attached a sample report. In summary, we need a simple report to share with vendors so they can easily, and simply see which Bills we've cleared with Bill Credits, so they do the same in their system.
Thank you for keeping in touch with us here in the Community. I want to help provide additional clarification about the vendor report you need in QuickBooks Desktop.
Right now, the only available option you have for the applied credits is to run the bill transaction history. Running a report that will show transactions applied to a bill is unavailable at this time.
