How would I create a P&L by rental building (not showing individual units?

This feels like a very basic question, but I haven't stumbled upon the answer yet so I'm wondering if I have my data setup wrong.

Background:

I'm currently using classes, and  have two rental buildings set up as follows

  • Buildings A
    • #1
    • #2
  • Building B
    • #1
    • #2
    • #3

I'd like to run a P&L which shows the totals for each buildings, but not the individual units.

Example - If Buildings A's rents are $1000, $1500 respectively, I'd like to show total rent as $2500.

I need to also be able to run standard P&L's by class for the entire thing at other times.

Currently I'm running standard P&L by class, exporting to Excel, and copy/pasting the data I need.

I've tried Selecting just the buildings in Filters > Class, but that gives me a zero when costs are tracked by unit.

I'd be glad to help you today, @bstreiss.

Thank you for reaching out to us about your concern in running reports by class.

When running the Profit & Loss report, the subclasses will show up together with their costs. If you'd like for the main class and the total amount to only show up, you can click on the arrow down ↓ beside the class name. This way, it will not show the breakdown of the entire class.

Aside from that, if you used Class as the Building you should be able to achieve what you want. You can customize the P&L and customize the Class. Choose the Class you wanted so the total that will be reported are the ones under that specific Class/Building only.

Filtering the class works properly. You'll want to make sure that the report filter is correct including the date range. Also, cost and purchases should be classed.

You can refer to this article in setting up classes: Set up and use class tracking in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you have further questions about QuickBooks and in setting up classes. Have a great day!

Thanks @mich.  That was enough to get me over the hurdle I needed.  As it turns out, there's a small "-" in front of each class that has one or more sub-classes.  If I click that it hits the info, and gives me the info I need.
