I am trying to prepare a 1099 for a contractor I have paid $1400. The system is saying she doesn't meet the threshold. Any idea what I did wrong?

I posted her payments as an Expense on my end, is that incorrect? It's showing her threshold in the negative.

Hi @bianca-biancanic,

Let's go through a few things you can check so you can create a 1099 form for your contractor in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

The first thing I suggest is to run the 1099 Transaction Detail report. This allows you to check if the transaction(s) for your contractor has the correct expense account assigned to it. Make the changes as necessary.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Reports menu.
  2. Search for 1099 Transaction Detail.

I'll also share with you this article: Create and file 1099s using QuickBooks Online. Scroll down to Step 3: Create your 1099s in QuickBooks Online. Pay close attention to Step 4. You'll need to select the correct boxes that represent the type of payments you made to your contractor.

Do you have other concerns with your QBO company? Place them in the comments below, and I'll take care of them.

I know is this is incorrect...Where is the "Threshold" value populated in QB online.  I work with a remote client I am certain it is an error in the setup of QB however where is it?

Hi there, @Cosmonova.

Let me share some information about handling 1099 preparation in QuickBooks Online.

Contractors that meet the threshold can get 1099. In that case, their names should show up when you prepare the form. You have to map the accounts used for the transactions of these contractors since some of your contractors aren't appearing in the list.

To review which contractor has at least $600, you can go to Step 4 when preparing 1099 and select your choices from the drop-down.
