Welcome to the Community, @mrhandyman7.

Since you don't want to pay monthly fees and still want to access QuickBooks Online (QBO) information, you can cancel your subscription. Once canceled, you still have read-only access to your data for one year.

Here's how to do it:

  1. In QBO, go to the Gear icon at the top right to get to the Account and Settings
  2. Click the Billing and subscription tab at the left pane, then tick Cancel subscription or Cancel online in the QuickBooks section.
  3. Select Continue to cancel and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. Choose Submit and cancel subscription, then hit Got it.

On the other hand, yes, you can also convert to desktop. Before doing so, please take note of the following:

  • If you use Multicurrency in QuickBooks Online, the data will not export correctly.
  • A recent version of QuickBooks Desktop needs to be installed before you start. You can download a trial to use as an alternative.
  • These steps explain how to convert to QuickBooks Desktop for Windows. For mac, check this article: convert to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

@mrhandyman7

If you need to keep a real QuickBooks, you may need to convert to Desktop first and also print/export all the reports and lists you may need. And then only, you may want to cancel your QBO subscription.
