I have now set myself up with the home office, but my utilities and rent are not automatically tracking as expenses unless I manually go in and create a Split

I can help you fix that issue, leilanilatimer-g.

 

There are times that QuickBooks is unable to automatically categorize a certain transaction, especially it's a combination of different expenses. When this happens, you can create bank rules to quickly categorize or split these types of transactions for you. I'll show you how to do it:

 

  1. Click the Gear icon, then choose Rules.
  2. Select Create Rule.
  3. In the Description field, enter the customer or vendor you want to create the rule for. 
  4. Tick the Match exactly checkbox if you want QuickBooks to only use the rule when transactions match exactly.
  5. From the Account drop-down menu, select the account you want transactions to go into.
  6. From the Type drop-down menu, choose BusinessPersonal, or Split, then select the appropriate expense categories.
  7. If you the rule to apply to transactions you've already categorized, you can tick the Also apply to past transactions checkbox.
  8. When you're done, hit Save.
