Glad to have you here, simplythebestpoo.

I want to make sure I'm on the right page. Just to confirm, is $40 amount a deposit that you want to link to an invoice in QuickBooks Online? Any additional information can help me provide an appropriate and timely solution to your concern.

I'm including this link for the detailed guide on how to link a deposit to an invoice in QBO for reference.

Please let me know if you're referring to something else. I'll ensure to get back to you.

Which QB online version so I need to have to be able to add OPEN BALANCE SUMMARY on my invoices? I have the second tier version and I can’t do it.

Glad to have you back here in the Community, @simplythebestpoo.

I'm here to walk you through on how you can add an account summary on your invoices in QuickBooks Online.

In QuickBooks Online, you have the option to add the account summary to your invoices. It is available to all versions. This includes the following summaries:

  • Balance Forward
  • Payments and credits.
  • New charges
  • Total amount due

To do that:

  1. Go to Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select on Custom Form Styles.
  3. Find the invoice template you use, then hit on  Edit ✎. Or select New Style▼ drop-down and create a new custom template.
  4. Press on the Content tab.
  5. In the form preview, tap on the body section and then Edit ✎.
  6. Tick and check the Show on invoice checkbox.
  7. Click on Done.

For complete details about this process together with removing the summaries from the invoice and sending a Balance Forward statements in QBO, please see this link: Learn how to give your customers their account summary in QuickBooks Online.

I'm also sharing these article below that contains details about generating customers statements and adding a project estimate summaries to a progress invoice, in case you need them in the future:

I'll be around to assist you if you have any other questions or concerns. Have a great week!
