And this removes the invoice from the modern view. So what was the purpose? You cannot view the email or customer views in "other templates". It makes no sense.

I can certainly understand how an ability to change an invoice's design to standard instead of modern and still be able to see previews for your templates could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

But I can't keep the modern view and not show accounting codes. And how is modern different from standard?

The difference between modern and standard templates on invoices in QuickBooks Online is they have a different appearance.
Modern templates can be customized within the invoice page by clicking Customization and you can have the PDF view to check the template. In comparison, the Standard template can be changed through the Custom form style. When reviewing the form, you'll need to select Print and Download first because this template is old.
