Hello there, @leeann2.

Allow me to help share some clarification about deleting an account in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Chart of Accounts (COA).

Currently, QBO doesn't have an option to permanently delete a bank account. Instead, you can inactivate it to ensure that you can still restore the bank information in case you need it for future transactions.

To inactivate an account, here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts under Your Company1-2.PNG
  3. Find the account you want to delete.
  4. Select the drop-down in the Action column, then choose Make Inactive3-4.PNG
  5. Click Yes to confirm the action.

For additional reference, you can check this article on how to remove accounts you no longer use

Also, if this a duplicate account, you have the option to merge your accounts to create a single representation of your bank in the Chart of Accounts.

That should do it! Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any other questions about the Chart of Accounts. I'm always here to help you out. Have a good one!

Does QBO ever intend to allow users to DELETE accounts? With the addition of limits, this has become an issue. When there were no limits, there was no reason to consider the number of accounts a user creates. But all of a sudden, if we are up against the 250 limit, I'm going to have to pay $1,000 more per year? That seems a bit deceptive.

Hi there, tlb1.

Thank you for contacting the Community. I'd like to take a moment to address your concerns regarding deleting accounts and the usage limits in place for QuickBooks Online.

I can show you how to delete items from the Chart of Accounts:

1. Click the Gear icon in the top right corner.

2. Select Chart of Accounts.

3. Locate the account you'd like to remove.

4. Choose the black drop-down arrow to the right.

5. Select Make inactive.

6. Click Yes.

This article provides additional information on how to remove accounts you're no longer using: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/chart-of-accounts/remove-accounts-you-no-longer-us....

While you do have the ability to make accounts inactive, this would have needed to be done before the limits were in place in order to reduce usage. I recommend this write-up that offers details about the usage limits: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/manage-intuit-subscriptions/what-are-usage-limits-....

Please let me know if you have any questions about this information. I'll be here to help.
