I purchased a new vehicle in 2022, How can I delete my old vehicle and add my new vehicle?

First make sure the Old vehicle has a $0 balance and your Tax Accountant has made any entries they need to make.  Then you simply go into your Chart of Accounts, Click on the Action Drop-down menu and click on Make Inactive.  It may say "Delete" in QBO, but that's okay, you're not really deleting it.  You're just making the file Inactive (aka Hiding it).

Regardless if you make the old car Inactive now or you wait to talk to your Accountant.  Go ahead and create a New Asset Acct just like the old car and put in the info for the new car.  Set the date for when you purchased the car.

Hi there, dayln-sebastian-.

I appreciate you for visiting the QuickBooks Community. I'll be sharing details on how the vehicle in QuickBooks Self Employed works. Then, ensure you can perform alternative ways to make sure that transactions associated with it won't apply to your future taxes.

Deleting an old vehicle that has been added to your QuickBooks Self Employed account is currently unavailable. You can only enter and update your vehicle info in the system to track your taxes accurately.

However, you have the option to exclude the vehicle expenses from your taxes. To do this, I suggest ensuring that you don't have transactions categorized under the Schedule C car and truck. If there's any, you'll need to change the category to the correct one. I suggest consulting an accountant before performing the process. They can provide suggestions on how to properly handle the entry, especially with the category to use for vehicle transactions.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu on the left panel.
  2. Find the transaction you want to edit.
  3. Select the icon to expand the transaction.
  4. Edit the transaction name, add notes or attach a receipt.
  5. To change the category, click the link in the Type or Category column. Then, select a new category.
  6. Click Save.

Once done, you can now add a new vehicle to your QBSE account.
