To purge your QBO account, the account must be within 60 days old. Follow these steps to reset your company data:
Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
Edit the URL on the address bar. remove everything after app/and enter purgecompany. For example: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany
Click Yes to confirm the action.
Otherwise, you have to open a NEW QBO account.

To answer your questions, your subscription will not be void when you purge your company but all the data. Thus, you won't have to pay again as you will still be using the same account.

My concern is: will my subscription be void?
Do I have to pay again? I already extended the subscription
As I have mentioned, you can only purge your current account within 60 days. It's up to you to cancel it and open a new account, or else.

the purgecompany option did not work for me. a small window flashed on the screen but was gone before i could see one word of it. then i briefly get a qbo screen with some command text, and then it returns to my company - with all the info i'm trying to purge, still there.

The purging of company data is only applicable to those accounts that are less than 60 days old. For 60 days and older, you'll want to cancel your QuickBooks Online subscription and sign up for a new one.
Additionally, the purge is only for QuickBooks Essentials, Plus, and Advanced users. It's possible that you're subscribed to Simple Start. If so, you'll want to cancel it and create a new account.

If you are using QBO Simple Start, you should open a new blank QBO account.
