I want to create the category list before I start adding transactions. How do I access the category list?

I'm here to assist you in setting up your categories.

 

QuickBooks Online has a class and location tracking feature that you can use to categorize the transactions. Though this option is only available in QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced, you can upgrade your plan to have this option.

 

Before we can add your category list, we have to turn on this feature first. You can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Account and Settings.
  2. From the Advanced tab, select the Categories section.
  3. Choose between class or location. Check the box and click Save.

Once done, you can now add your categories. You can follow the steps in these articles:

I tried to create categories and subcategories following your suggestion below.  But when I click to the point where I click the Advanced tab, there is no Categories section to click.  What do I need to do?

Congrats on making your first post here in the Community. I appreciate you reviewing the information my colleague provided above about categories. 

 

Let's ensure that you're accessing the details properly. You need have/do these two things before going through the Advanced tab to look over the Categories section: 

 

  • Logging in an as admin when reviewing these settings
  • Using a QuickBooks Online Plus or Advanced version
