I want to separate my edison bill from my water bill even though they are both listed on the account name of utilities, can I separate them in my P & L Statement? how

They will be listed as one single line in your Profit and Loss report if you're only using one expense account for both edison and water bills. 

Although, you can create two sub-accounts under utilities and use them to separate the water bills form edison. Here's how:

1. Go to your Chart of Accounts.
2. Click New in the upper-right hand corner.
3. Create a sub-account under utilities using the same Account and Detail Type. 
4. Check the Is sub-account box and select Utilities in the drop-down list.
5. Enter the name of the sub-account and click Save and close. 
6. Follow the same steps to create the other sub-account.

Once done, you can go back to each expense or checks. Then, edit or replace the expense accounts and use the ones that you just created.

Make sure to run your Profit and Loss afterward to check if they are already separated.
