Importing Transactions from another QB file

Hello - I have an interesting problem I'm trying to solve. Doing some consulting work for a client company, and one of the projects I'm working on for them is an upgrade from QB Premier to QB Enterprise, so they can utilize the improved functionality and additional seats you can buy w/Enterprise.

This in normal instances would be a fairly easy thing to do, just open the Premier file in Enterprise and it'll convert to Enterprise. However, the wrinkle is they want to leave those old books behind - lots of data errors and items that they don't want in the upgraded version of their books. The companies are 3-5 years old (4 companies in total) so there's lots of data in the current Premier version of the books.

In other words, they want to start fresh for 2020  with the new Enterprise versions.  I've been able to import the various lists - chart of accounts, other names, etc., but not yet the transactions (Journal Entries, checks, etc.) There's a lot of transactions in a couple of companies - thousands of lines - so it's not something I can or should be doing manually.

Does anyone know of a way that I can just pull the transactions from a certain date (say 1/1/20) into QB? I understand that I'll need to input items that were outstanding as of 12/31/19 that were subsequently paid in 2020, but really, trying to find a way to pull in 2020 transactions without having to re-enter them manually. Is this a 3rd party solution? Is it doable at all automatically?  Any help on this front is appreciated.

A bit more info: both versions are desktop and they don't use payroll functionality - just manual JEs for that info - they use an outside vendor for this.  The other thing they do is import claims checks they pay on a weekly basis - which is the majority of the transactions (and often multiple claims are paid on one check so lots of splits in the data).  But those claims aren't attached to bills in the system (just the vendor is identified).

Importing Transactions from another QB file

Good day, CBellamy.

I'd like to welcome you to the QuickBooks Community family.

You can make use of the Bank Feeds feature so you can only bring in the bank transactions for 2020. Connect your bank to the new file. You can also manually import the bank transactions using a web connect file from your bank. Once imported, you can simply add and categorize them.

You can refer to these articles:

For the other transactions, like bills and invoices, you'll want to enter them manually or use a third-party application. You may visit Apps for QuickBooks Desktop to see the list of supported applications.

Also, here are the additional articles to learn more about upgrading to a new QuickBooks Desktop version:
