Importing vendors

Hi, I have a client that already has vendors in QBO - but needs to add several more - can they import an excel file? Or will it overwrite what is already there.

Thanks

Cindy

Importing vendors

Hello there, @CDuncan420.

Yes, they can import vendors through an excel file, Cindy. Please ensure that the columns of the Excel spreadsheet have the complete headers.

Also, make sure that there are no blank cells or other headers at the top of the spreadsheet, and the vendor has no name match in QuickBooks. If they have the same name but a different person, I'd suggest inserting an extra character on its name to import it seamlessly. This way, it won't overwrite the data.

Also, you may need to add the names on the Excel spreadsheet before importing. Besides, you can check the client's vendor list and before importing it, ensure to remove any vendors on the Excel file that are already existing in QuickBooks.

Then download the sample file and then clear the contents to get the header and then add the vendors' information.

Here's how to get the sample file:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and then select Import data.
  2. Choose Vendors.
  3. Click the Download a sample file link.
