Hi QuickBooks and All,
Here's an improvement request for QuickBooks.
If you feel this would be helpful to you, please put a "cheer" vote and/or post a reply.
Request: QuickBooks, can you please add a column for the “To Be Built” quantity in the “Inventory Stock Status By Item” report?
We want to see “To Be Built” quantity as its own column, just as you see “On PO” as its own column.
Could you make this improvement in the 2020 release of QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise?
Why? Having this information tells us if we already have those items being built or if we need to take action to have more items built. It takes a ton of time to open other screens to view the “To Be Built” data for each item. It’s more efficient to have “To Be Built” data included in the inventory report. Just to reiterate, we want to see “To Be Built” quantity as its own column, just as you see “On PO” as its own column.
I'll take note of your feedback here, Dav.
We're constantly adding new features every time we roll out release updates for QuickBooks. I know that other customers would also like to see the To Be Built option in the inventory reports.
Most of the enhancements we add to the program are usually based from the feedback we receive from the users. I'll be sure to pass on your suggestion to our developers. Who knows, this might get a chance of being added in the 2020 release.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts in this forum for other users to see. Please post again if you need anything else.
Since the stock status by item report already has a column titled, for assemblies, I'm not sure what you are asking.
If you are asking about a "where used" report, a report showing which assemblies use what items, that is one of several standard inventory reports QB has always been missing.
There are third party utilities that will provide that, one I know of is ccrqbom
Desktop has a suggest link under the help menu too, supposedly more effective than this community
Hi @Rustler –
“For Assemblies” quantity is not really “To Be Built” quantity. Currently, in QB Desktop Enterprise, “For Assemblies” in the “Inventory Stock Status By Item” report is incorrectly summing “On Pending” and “To Be Built”. QuickBooks has been alerted to that problem. “For Assemblies” should just equal “On Pending” builds.
Anyhow, we want to see “To Be Built” quantity as its own column, just as you see “On PO” as its own column. By seeing the “To Be Built” quantity, we’ll be able to see immediately from the report that we have more the item/part being built for us.
Below is just extra info for anyone following along, or anyone who might want more of an explanation:
“To Be Built” quantity: More of the item is being built.
“On Pending” quantity : This indicates that the item will be consumed to make a completely DIFFERENT item.
Let’s say we make tires and cars, and we’re looking at the “Inventory Stock Status By Item” report for item “Tires”.
On Hand quantity = 100 (This is what we have in inventory right now.)
On Pending quantity = 20 (This means we need 20 to go into building a different item. In this case, we need 20 tires to go onto builds for a car. A “Car” is considered its own item, with a different part # than a “Tire”. )
To Be Built quantity = 45 (This means we currently have work orders open to make 45 of item “Tire”.)
Sales Order quantity = 10 (This is how many of the item a customer wants to buy. So, customers want to by 10 “Tires".)
For Assemblies quantity = This should only equal “On Pending” quantity because this is how much of item “Tire” will be consumed to make a different item. In this case, we need 20 “Tires” that will go into building item “Car”.
This is how the equation “Available” quantity should work:
Available quantity = On Hand - On Pending - Sales Order.
70 = 100 – 20 -10, So, we have 70 Available.
As you can see, “To Be Built” should not be in the equation to determine “Available” quantity.
