In my invoice template, there is a "Product/Service" field with a drop down menu. How can I delete an item in that drop down menu that is not used?

In my invoice template, there is a "Product/Service" field with a drop down menu. How can I delete an item in that drop down menu that is not used?

Greetings, @geoff7.

 

You can only inactivate products or services in your QuickBooks to remove them from the "Product/Service"drop-down menu. I can guide you how.

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Select Products and Services.
  3. Locate the desired product or service you want to make inactivate.
  4. From the Actions columns, click on the Edit drop-down menu.
  5. Choose Make inactive in the drop-down list.
  6. Click Yes to confirm. 

Once completed, the product or service will no longer be included in the reports nor displayed when creating an invoice or any sales form. However, it will show as  "Name of the item (deleted)" in your existing transactions.

You can only inactivate products or services in your QuickBooks to remove them from the "Product/Service"drop-down menu. I can guide you how.

  1. Go to the Gear Icon.
  2. Select Products and Services.
  3. Locate the desired product or service you want to make inactivate.

I am using QB self-employed and I'm not finding these same options. Is there a way for me to do this with QBSE?

Welcome to the Community space and I appreciate that you want to use the inactive feature in QuickBooks.

 

Currently, making your  Product and Services inactive is not yet available in QuickBooks Self-Employed. We're continuously working towards providing better features to ensure our customers can manage their business efficiently.

 

Also, the steps shared by my colleague above are for QuickBooks Online. That's why you can't find those options in your QuickBooks Self-Employed.

You guys...seriously...these are such simple things that should already be sorted out on this software. You need to do better. I want to continue using this product but the negative aspects are really starting to pile up. Please don't respond. Instead, use that time to fix this stuff. It's exhausting.

We've added 4 new service product codes in QBO for use in QB Time. When the teams go to add the service item on the time card, they do not show up in the drop-down menu. These were duplicated from service items that are currently being used and were assigned to the team members.

Thanks for the additional details. Let me assist you with the integration between QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Time (QB Time).

 

All changes and updates from QBO must be synced to QB Time. After you added the item in QBO, you'll need to import it to QB Time so you can assign it to your team members. From the QuickBooks button, select Import.

 

However, since you've already added these items in QB Time, this will create duplicates. You'll want to reach out to our Support Team so they can help you in merging them. Click the (?) icon, select Product Help, then choose a way to connect with them.

 

Once done, you'll want to make sure that these items are assigned to the team members. Go to the My Team menu, double-click a member's name, then proceed to the Custom Fields. You can assign it from there.

These service items were first added in QBO products and services (duplicated from items already being used). I can see them available in QB Time and have assigned them to the teams members but they are not available when a manual time card is being added.

Since the service items are not available when a manual time card is added, I'd suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. They can check the service item that is applied to your team members and further investigate this matter.

This is a fundamental feature that should be addressed ASAP by your company if it's reputable. It is non of my customer's business how I categorize my billable income descriptions.
