Interior Design Wholesale and Resale Tracking

I have a client who owns an interior design business. She buys wholesale & retail items, and then turns around and resells them to a client for a higher price.

Sometimes she'll buy an item and sell it to a client immediately, but sometimes she'll buy something not knowing who she'll sell it to, and will sell it months later. My questions:

1. Should we be keeping up with linking that wholesale transaction to the sale of the item transaction? Or is it all just money in and money out, no need to keep track?

2. If we need to keep track, what is the most efficient way to do this? Class feature, inventory, COGS, Products/Services, etc?

I have researched and researched and can't figure out the best way to do this!

What she buys and resells immediately, is just an expense, usually I use a COGS type account titled COS, cost of sales.

What she buys and keeps on hand, stocks, is inventory. Inventory will post the cost of the item to COGS when it is sold and post the sales price to income. Selling the inventory item also decreases the total cost of the item in inventory and lowers the qty on hand.

Whether she buys wholesale or retail is immaterial, the price paid is the cost.
