Buy nowI understand that creating an invoice is essential when operating your business, Nick. I'm here to provide troubleshooting steps so you can make it without taxes added.
To isolate the issue, let's start by resetting the data in your mobile app. Here’s how to do it on different mobile operating systems:
For iOS devices:
1. Go to your phone's settings.
2. Select General, then choose iPhone Storage.
3. Tap QuickBooks Online from the application list.
4. Select Offload App to free up the storage without deleting the documents and data for the app.
For Android devices:
1. Go to your phone's settings.
2.Choose Apps (varies by device).
3. Select QuickBooks Online from the application list.
4. Go to the Storage section, then tap Clear Data.
After refreshing the data, close and reopen your mobile app. It's also best to restart your phone. If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the application to start fresh. Follow the steps below to delete it
1. Tap and hold QuickBooks Online on your phone.
2. Drag the app to the Uninstall section.
3. Press Yes to confirm.
In the meantime, access your QBO account through your mobile browser and create the invoice from there.
Moreover, I'm adding this article as your reference for customizing your invoices: Customize invoices on the QuickBooks Online mobile app.
I'm always here to assist you with any other issues you encounter while using the mobile app. Feel free to reach out, and I'll be happy to help. Have a great day ahead!
Tried that as well as other things. I've been on phone with support and they have no answers or support. The app makes me set up a tax acct and everytime I do it it crashes.
Needs to be a fix. Whatever techs did last week screwed it all up.
Hi Nick,
Yes, you are not alone. Many of us have found ourselves in a sales tax rut after some sort of update within the last few weeks. On my mobile device, sales receipts no longer works without setting a rate for each item, but the system won't allow that, no tax rates are loaded, and the system won't let me add one. I think this is what you are experiencing, even though you might be articulating it differently.
For me, mobile invoices still work. It doesn't require a tax rate for each item, but it does set sales tax automatically to my business address, no matter where I go with my mobile business. If I don't update the tax rate for the invoice, I end up charging the wrong rate.
In the midst of dealing with this through phone support and posting on this website, I have been told that Quickbooks does not support the app. Surely that is a rude awakening. There is no hope that this will ever be solved. In the meantime, I have to use invoices, which take twice as long as sales receipts. One thing I want to add is that I do not suggest deleting the app and loading it again; my overall experience worsened after I did that. There is some thought that the issues we are experiencing have to do with a QBO update for Android phones, and that iPhones are not experiencing this problem. On the other hand, I have a buddy who is on QBO with an Android as well, he never got the update and his interface hasn't changed, and he has no problems. Why some us on on Android are having problems while others aren't is a head scratcher.

I do have an android as well.
Hi MirriamM,
Just curious, but does anyone from your customer care, engineering, or upper management read these boards? Why would it take a one-hour phone call to customer care to alert the company that there is a problem? Whenever I call, it is as if they have heard about the problem for the very first time. And then they tell me that Quickbooks doesn't support the app.

I appreciate you for coming back to this thread and letting us know about the type of device you're using, @nickmurray22.
Since you have encountered the same issue about entering invoices without sales taxes, I'd suggest contacting our Technical Support Team. I understand that you have already reached out to them, however, it’s best to contact them to initiate a further investigation and determine the leading cause of why you're unable to create an invoice without sales tax on it. They can do that while maintaining your privacy.
Additionally, refer to this article for other options when contacting them. You can also scroll down to the bottom to take note of their support schedule and hours: QuickBooks Online Support.
Concerning your question, @Service, we have our moderators within this forum that focus on customer's queries posted here. The same with our upper management team, they also have a separate focus where they can assess our clients. This is why we advised our customer posting from Community to contact our phone support team with concerns similar to yours to assess you with privacy.
Situations like these may need to pull up your account and may need you to share your confidential data that we don't encourage you to share in this public forum for your safety.
Furthermore, If you have additional inquiries about managing sales transactions within the app, feel free to visit the Community. Take care, everyone!
I'm experiencing the same issue. The app is worthless now. I can even take payment in the field since I can't get the sales tax to work properly.
I also uninstalled the app and reinstalled it which made things worse as well!!!
QuickBooks support is as worthless as the app. We are looking at switching to Freshbooks or Zoho Books!
I appreciate your patience in following the troubleshooting steps provided above, @booboobusters1.
Since the issue persists, I suggest that you contact our support team for further assistance. They have the required expertise and tools to investigate the matter and help you resolve it.

In the meantime, I encourage using the browser to process your sales tax.
Additionally, you can run a sales tax liability report to check how much you owe in QuickBooks.
If you have any other concerns with your sales tax in the QBO App, please feel free to let us know. We'll do everything we can to assist you.
Yes, reinstalling the app will make it worse. Be sure to use the feedback box on the gear page to relay your concerns. Telephone help isn't any help. Neither is posting on community. But I will tell you one thing that really helped on another issue that I had in the past and that was to send a snail mail letter to the CEO of Intuit and they responded by connecting me to an English-speaking customer service department and my problem was solved a couple months later. I don't have the energy to do the heavy lifting on this right now but I would encourage you to do it.
