Join nowWhen I pull up a credit card account for a transaction I see two fields where "class" (aka, department in our case) is input.
One is on the Credit Card Purchase/Charge (which looks like a check image), the other is on the "expense" tab.
Shouldn't both of these automatically be the same? I have transactions where the credit card charge goes to a different department than the one indicated on the expense account in the system. I assume the expense account has precedence.
Hello @Chantilly1,
Let me help share how the assignment of class in each field for your check transaction affects your data in QuickBooks.
Normally, each field of class determines a unique reporting method and identify how you wish to display the transaction on your report:
In your case, I'm assuming you only need to select a class for the whole check not on the Expenses tab as you're the expense for a certain department.
Additionally, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Know where you stand financially.
If you have any other questions, please let me know by leaving any comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.
If you are using an importer tool, you may define Expense Class and Item Class
