Issuing a refund for shipping income

As a eBay seller payment from eBay often includes money collect for shipping cost and is recorded as shipping income. Often eBay over charges for shipping so I issue a refund to the customer through eBay, what is the best way to record the transaction? Would it make sense to record a refund receipt and code it to the shipping account?

Issuing a refund for shipping income

Greetings, @SBNITax.

Yes, you can create a refund receipt to give the refund to your customer. Let's first create a shipping fee service item then associate it to your shipping account. I can guide you in doing so.

  1. Go to the New icon (+).
  2. Choose Refund Receipt.
  3. Enter your customer's details.
  4. From the Product/Service item drop-down, click Add New.
  5. Select Service from the Product/Service Information page.
  6. Enter Shipping Fee as its name.
  7. Pick the Shipping Income Account under the Income Account drop-down.
  8. Click Save and Close.
  9. Enter the rest of the refund details.
  10. Select Save and Close
