Emailing Invoice with FROM email address in QB gets changed when email is in drafts in Mac Mail

This started in QB 2014 (possibly when I upgraded to OS X Yosemite) and I just upgraded to QB Mac 2015 and it’s still a problem.

1. Create invoice to be emailed upon payment.

2. Accept payment.

3. Go to File … Email Forms … and select the invoice to email.

4. Select me@mycompany as the FROM: email address. Email will go to Drafts folder.

5. Send.

6. Go to Drafts folder in Mac Mail.  FROM email address is one of my other personal email addresses instead of my business email address.

I do not know how to get QB (or Mac Mail, for that matter) to keep what I setup in QB to send an invoice.

It is correct coming out of QuickBooks (the draft in Mail is correct). The problem must be in Mail.  Go to Mail->Preferences and click on Accounts.  On the left will appear all the accounts you have configured. Have you configured an account for the address you are using as the outbound address?  If so, check the outgoing Mail server setting for that account and make sure it is correct.  Finally click "Use only this server".

To answer your questions:
Yes, I have an account configured as outbound address.
Yes, the account is correct.
As far as "Use only this server" I could do that for the situation when I am emailing a batch or set of invoices all at once.  That is, I could set it up for the biz address I need, do my invoice mailing, and then flip it back to Send Messages from....Account of selected mailbox" which is what I need for day-to-day emailing.

I have not totally solved this issue but here's what I did today: instead of having the email get docked in the Drafts folder, I just had QB send it.  In this way the email address I selected in QB was honored.

I just set up my QB/Mail to do this. First you need to understand that you have TWO default sending email addresses. The first one is “controlled” in your Mail preferences > Composing > Send new messages from “email_address”. This only set the default sending email when you manually click on New Message. Sadly QB does not use that preferences. It uses a second order which is the first email address you have entered in your internet accounts. And it is a bit more complicated to set/fix. First, quit Mail & QB, go to System Preferences > Internet Accounts. For each email account you have, deactivate it.  (You may have to reboot here). Then select your business account addresse and activate it. Do the some with the others in the order you wish. Restart Mail & QB. Try. It should works, at least it did for me. Btw, that address order has nothing to do with the order used in your mailboxes. So three “way” to sort your addresses which gives you quite a bit of flexibility.  In my case QB is using our business address, manually I use my personel address and my first mailboxe received all the newsletters I have. . . Hope this works for you.

Thanks, I will try this.  I was not aware I could change that order.  In my testing it did seem that QB always chose the first email address in the list for draft forwarding.

I did everything exactly as instructed. It did not help. It would only send the invoice from my business email if I unchecked the box "Save emails as drafts in email program" otherwise it keeps automatically sending it from my personal email address. Very frustrating because I have to manually change the "from" email address on all my invoices. I used to be able to send a batch of invoices out each month but a glitch in QuickBooks was noticed a few months ago when customers notified me they got an email from me but the invoice was not attached. So now I have to go through each invoice (65 a month) and manually check to make sure the invoice is attached and my correct business email address is the one it is sending it from.
Very frustrating and time consuming.

If you are using El Capitan the issue is likely with Apple Mail.  We have noticed that Apple Mail's UI is showing it is coming from a different account than the one selected in QuickBooks.  But the correct account is actually chosen and when you email the invoice you will see that the correct account was actually used.   You may want to verify this by emailing an invoice to yourself and then checking what addressed it came from.

Has this issue been fixed?  Whenever my iCloud account (which always remains at the top of my account list) in AppleMail is "active", QuickBooks for MAC 2016 (with El Captain 10.11.2) ALWAYS uses this account instead of my business email account.  This occurs when sending any QB invoice via "draft"email.  No "account activation" order routine seems to matter.  Lastly, using the "Drafts" folder for other email accounts in AppleMail does not change the default email as it does when sent from QB.  This problem only occurs in QB where it seems to only use the first email account listed in AppleMail instead of the default email setup in the Company Settings.

I do not know if this problem has been fixed (I have seen it, too) but I do know that if from QB you "Email...forms" and do not check "save emails in draft folder" then QB sends from the biz address as QB knows it.  I know this is not ideal but it does work for me.

Quickbooks support commented that they would look into this matter 11 months ago in QB 2015.  I am using the most current version of QB 2015 and I'm also still experiencing and manually dealing with this bug.  So it seems from your post they still have not fixed it in QB 2016.

Thanks.  Unfortunately ALL of my invoices have a pdf attachment which, I guess, must be attached while sending out of the Draft folder.  (There are other bugs, as well...crashes whenever any changes/edits are made to an account;  the Payroll button on the Company Homepage has a broken link and does not work;  QB, if left running more than 24 hours, does not change the date to match the computer's system date;  etc.)

I think this issue began with El Cap and that it is actually a Mail issue (we set the outgoing account to what you selected in QB via AppleScript).  I'll check again to see if it has been fixed but not yet shipped.

Thank You!  That seems to be what is happening to me, too.  I can't say that all is well just yet because I have sent two emails (which acted as you described) but have not received them.  They are somewhere in cyberspace.
UPDATE:  I just tried a third test but I did change the "from" account to display the correct account and I got the test email.  The first two are still lost in space.  This explains why my customers claimed they did not get their invoices.

I do have to manually change it even though it may show that it sent correctly (but showed the wrong account).  Wish I didn't have to do this every time I send out monthly invoices.  Yuk!

Hmm. Please check the "Sent" folder in the left side bar for the account and see if the emails are in there.  They should be in the right account.  Please let me know.

I don't think you have to change it - I think Mail is just displaying the wrong email but actually sends it to the correct one.  I answered you already on another thread.

Ok, we looked into this.  According to the engineer in the Mail window it looks like it is being sent from the wrong address.  But if you look at which drafts folder it is in the mail is actually being sent from the correct account (the one specified in QuickBooks).  Also if you send it he sees it being sent from the correct account.

Check it out and let me know if this is not the case for you.  As it is looks like a problem in Apple Mail.
