How can I get my customer job list to show alphabetically when we are entering time. It's alpha'd in customer center but not in time tracking drop down

"It's alpha'd in customer center"

Open the Customer Center; if you see a large diamond at the top, to the left of Name, someone clicked here to force it to Display in sequence. Click on that large diamond to make it go away and now you see the True sequence.

View menu > Re-Sort list is how you put any list back into "alpha-numeric" or true Sequence.

Reports and dropdowns that are out of sequence = the underlying List is the issue and needs you to Re-Sort it.

That large diamond on the Top Left applies to any List View in QB with clickable column titles.

Resort your names list (not the customer list):

Start on a check in the Payee field.   Press Ctrl-L to open the the Names list.  Pick Re-sort from the Names button at the bottom of the list.

For some reason when I got to create an invoice the client name is on the drop down - no matter how many times I try in customization it will not allow me to move the Company name to the top of the list - the move up bottom is grey.  Please help I cannot invoice my clients by contact name

Thanks for following this thread, @Quick2828.

The name displayed in the Customer & Jobs window is pulled from the information recorded in the Customer Name section (client’s profile).

Since you want to use the company name when creating an invoice, I suggest entering it in the Customer Name. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Customers menu at the top to select Customer Center.
  2. This will take you to the Customer & Jobs tab.
  3. From there, double-click on the client you’re working on to see the complete details.
  4. In the Customer Name section, input the company name and then click OK to save the changes.

However, if the information entered is correct, let’s download the latest release. This process will resolve any unexpected behavior you experience while using the software.

  1. Tap the Help icon at the top to choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.

  2. In the Update Now tab, mark the Reset Update box to remove the previous downloads and then click the Get Updates button.

  3. Hit the OK button to continue.

  4. Once done, follow the instructions to complete the update process.

Next, open the company file and then move the company name to the top of the list.

Reach out to me whatever questions you may have about QuickBooks. I’m more than happy to assist further. Have a good one.

I have been trying to solve this for years! Every time I add a new customer, their name went to the top of the list instead of alphabetical order. So irritating for reports and statements! This helped me so much. I use a Mac so I used command L but I am so grateful to you for this help! Thank you!
