Job Costing - run P&L by Job in the same format as Job Profitability Summary

I am trying to run a Job Profitability Summary on a cash basis, but from what I can find it will only report on billed revenue. Therefore, I thought a workaround would be to use a P&L by Job, which will report only revenue received. I would like the report to be in the format of the Job Profitability Summary, where the columns are Act. Revenue, Act. Cost, and Difference and the rows are by Customer:Job. It is a much cleaner way for me to analyze profitability by job than having the Customer:Job as columns. Is there a solution to my issue? If not, can this workaround be created by customizing a report? Thank you!

Re: Job Costing - run P&L by Job in the same format as Job Profitability Summary

Hi CoolCasey,

Customizing the Profit and Loss by Job report to show the actual cost, actual revenue, and difference is not possible. The Profit and Loss by Job and Job Profitability Summary reports will post different information. You'll want to utilize them separately.

I've got this handy article that you can read for more information about: Understand reports.

I've also added this article you can read for future reference: Help articles for QuickBooks Desktop.

Thanks for your response, SheillaGraceA. Since I cannot customize the P&L by Job, how can I create a report that provides me with the data from the Job Profitability Summary in a format similar to the P&L by Job (jobs as rows, actual revenue and actual expenses as columns)?

Re: Job Costing - run P&L by Job in the same format as Job Profitability Summary

Hello, CoolCasey.

The type of report that has information from Job Profitability Summary and format like P&L by job is unavailable. As a workaround, you can export both reports to Excel (just click the Excel tab at the top of the report). From there combine all the data you need through your desired format.

I’ll also make sure to take note of this preference and share it to our developers for future updates.
